Wei Jingsheng Meets with Japanese Members of the Diet; Urges Japan to Block the Chinese Communist and North Korea from Playing with Nuclear Weapons

(The Epoch Times Japan 10/27/2006 by Epoch Times reporter Zhang Ben-Zhen in Tokyo)

On visit to Japan, renowned democracy and human rights activist Wei Jingsheng, while meeting with Japanese Members of Diet, on October 26 described his experience on death row where convicts and police confirmed that organs were harvested from prisoners.  He said that Chinese people today, including Communist Party members, already do not believe in the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the party may collapse at any time.  Wei Jingsheng said even more outspokenly that the CCP planned and directed the problem of North Korea's nuclear power.  Furthermore, that Japan as Asia's most powerful nation ought to work hard, otherwise, who else to prevent the CCP and North Korea from playing with nuclear weapons?

Wei Jingsheng was speaking on the invitation by the Japan's Democracy in Asia and China, at the Japanese House of Representatives to meet with the Representatives and the Senators.  He spoke earnestly with Japanese members of the Diet from different parties.  Around thirty people attended including Diet members, former Diet members and other representatives.

The former vice minister of the Ministry of Justice, the current chairman of the Democracy in Asia and China Mr. Marino Seishu; House Representative Edano Yukio, Democratic Party Constitution Research Committee president; Democratic Party Secretary General, Diet member Dr. Yukio Hatoyama; all spoke to welcome Wei Jingsheng on his visit to Japan and to express their hope for China to move toward freedom and democracy.

After they spoke, Wei Jingsheng lectured for approximately thirty minutes.  He said that many Chinese hope to study the Japanese democratic system; and expect that Japan, having become democratic and wealthy, ought to pay attention to its international image and take on greater responsibility in the world, especially for peace in East Asia, progress toward democracy, and human rights.  He believes it is unfair that Japan that possess great economic strength and a good political systems to be slighted by the world.  He suggested that, after North Korea's nuclear explosion that resulted tension in Asia's political atmosphere, Japan ought to work hard to prevent the CCP and North Korea from playing nuclear games.  On the issue of Asian security, Japan plays an extremely important and irreplaceable role.  Japan ought to prevent these dangerous countries and politicians from igniting warfare, at the same time support democracy and human rights in all countries, should be the best long-term strategy for preventing war.

In the discussion following, Japanese Diet member, Mr. Matubara Hito expressed that after reading the Epoch Times report on the independent Canadian investigation of allegations of the Chinese Communist Party's harvesting of organs from Falun Gong practitioners he felt it was convincing.  He said that this is an extremely cruel violation of human rights.  Wei Jingsheng responded to his comment and explained that in 1981, while still on death row he investigated this claim.  Not only did other convicts, but even police officers confirmed that such a thing took place.  He previously testified in 1998 at a U.S. congressional hearing on the subject.  Last year CCP Minister of Health acknowledged that organs are harvested from executed prisoners.  Presently, from outside China it is difficult to gather evidence (related to the allegations), but according to his investigations from the past, police who had participated in organ harvesting explained the process in detail.  Even the police officers said it was so ruthless they could not bear it, for days they would be unable to sleep.

Responding to a Diet member's question about China's current situation, Wei Jingsheng said: look at Hu Jintao's move before Shanghai's mayor Chen Liangyu's arrest, he changed the officers of the guards at the central compound, he switched the directors of the Shanghai Military Police, explaining that they were protecting against a military coup.  Conflicts within the CCP are extremely serious; it may collapse at any time.  Now Chinese people are different from 100 years ago, a majority hope for democracy, so democracy will certainly emerge in China, and right now is a critical time period.

Former representative, Japan-Taiwan Economic Security Research Council president Mr. Nakatsugawa said, Japan and Taiwan share common value systems, completely opposite of the Chinese Communist Party.  Wei Jingsheng explained that when CCP dictators rise in power they have to have a war to establish their authority, thus the conditions for peaceful coexistence of Taiwan and the Chinese Communist regime do not exist.  But the CCP must carefully plan its attack on Taiwan and find an opportune moment.  They have to satisfy three conditions:  1) Russia's support, 2) a fundamental break between NATO allied nations and the U.S., and 3) a weak Japan, for practically speaking China's fighting Taiwan is like fighting the U.S.  The CCP has always aimed missiles and other new weapons in preparation for war, but these three conditions have never co-existed.  Wei thinks that, as long as Japan stands with the U.S., Taiwan will be secure.

Wei Jingsheng believes that Hu Jintao, when compared with his predecessors on the issue of suppression and massacre of ethnic minorities -- nothing has changed.  If anything has, the situation has become even more ruthless, and more cunning.

"My life is has been given to me by you," Wei Jingsheng thanked Japanese, European and American politicians and people who worked for his rescue for more than ten years.  Furthermore he pledged to continue to cooperate with everyone to protect world peace, and push for democracy in Asia.

In November 1997 Wei Jingsheng was rescued to the U.S.  In 1998 he planned to travel to Japan, but a few days before traveling his passport was mysteriously stolen.  This is his first trip to Japan.  He said, this is a trip of gratitude, but also to call on Japan to understand more thoroughly China's human rights situation, and to pay greater attention to the progress of democracy in China.
