Wei Jingsheng, Huang Ciping Meet with Senior US Congressional Member Frank Wolf on China

On the afternoon of April 3, 2008, the Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition WEI Jingsheng and Secretary-General HUANG Ciping met with the senior US Representative Frank Wolf in his office.  Representative Wolf is a long time supporter of the Chinese democracy movement and freedom of religion; in particular he cares deeply about:

1) The attitude of Chinese democracy advocators towards Tibetans;

2) Political prisoners in China: what would they think if they knew President Bush plans on attending the Beijing Olympics;

3) If the Olympic Games crisis will be the tipping point for Chinese democratization.

Secretary-General Huang mentioned that Mr. Wei Jingsheng's recent article published in the Washington Post along with other news media in various languages dealt exactly with these questions of whether China is coming to a turning point.  Representative Wolf immediately had his assistant make a copy of the article.  Both sides continued their ardent discussion related to these three issues.

Before departing, Mr. Wolf asked about Mr. Wei's current living condition.  He was particularly interested in how to pay the expenses associated with frequent travel.  Secretary-General Huang told him that, although the hosts pay for the travel and hotels, typically the remaining expenses are out of his own income.  Mr. Wolf expressed that he appreciated their work.
