Ciping Appears Live at Sky News TV to Condemn and Comment on Chinese
Government's Internet Censorship
Fifteen
minutes before 3pm (EST) on August 1, 2008, the Executive Director of the Wei
Jingsheng Foundation, Ciping Huang was invited as a human rights activist to
appear live at UK's Sky News from its Washington DC bureau, responding to the
news that the Chinese government unblocked some Internet sites at the main
press center and media venues in China that day. She condemned the Chinese government for not carrying out
its promise of "give the media complete freedom to report when they come
to China." when winning the Olympic bid in 2001.
Here
is her response on Sky News TV: "First, this proves that international
pressure works. Without the
previous international outcry on this issue and pressure, the Chinese
government would not do anything at all.
Therefore, we must continue our attention and effort to push for more
openness and protest the censorship, until we have a true free press, which is
the most important element China needs now."
When
asked if the Chinese government would continue to leave the door open this way,
she responded: "Not at all, the Chinese government really does not want
that, so it will be limited and temporary. As a matter of fact, they did not really open all the sites,
as I have checked this morning and also received reports from China as well. Many sites, especially the overseas
Chinese sites are still blocked. This
means the Chinese communist party is only doing so to get the international
pressure off and will resume the censorship as soon as they can. I am afraid that after the Olympics,
maybe even during the Olympics, they will resume their censorship. Who knows, maybe they will do a 'seek
and hide' play by making their censorship dynamically changing, only for the
purpose of getting the international pressure off."

黄慈萍接受天空电视台有关中国政府对特定西方媒体解禁的消息的实况采访
2008年8月1日下午，魏京生基金会执行主任黄慈萍以人权活动家的身份在美国首都华盛顿接受了英国天空电视台的实况采访。就当天在媒体曝光及国际压力下，中国政府对特定西方媒体解禁的消息做出反应。她谴责了中国政府拒绝实现其在2001年赢得奥运申办权时“将予以来到中国的媒体全面自由”的诺言。
以下为她的相关回答：“首先，这说明国际压力能够奏效。如果没有这之前国际上的呼吁和压力，中国政府是不会做出让步的。因而，我们必须继续对此予以关注和努力，推动更多的开放并拒绝政府的控制，直到得到真正的新闻自由。新闻自由对现今中国是最重要的。”
当她被问到中国政府是否会继续将大门打开时，她说：“不会的。中共可不想要这个，所以这只会是临时和有限的。事实上，中共并没有开放所有的网站。我今天早上还查过。其他国内的朋友也报告这样的情况。（从中国）许多网站，尤其是中文的网站还是进不去。这说明中共并非心甘情愿，只不过是迫于国际压力而不得不如此而已。一旦可能，他们就又会恢复原样。我担心奥运会，甚至奥运期间，他们就会这样做。他们可能会捉迷藏，搞一个变化莫测的封锁，以此来对付国际社会。”
