The Special Conference of the Chinese Democratic Party National Convention with Live Broadcast

At 9am Eastern USA time (9pm Beijing time) on April 3, the special conference of the Chinese Democratic Party National Convention started in New York, with almost 100 members from all over the world in attendance. Besides a live report from the news media, there is also a live broadcast via Internet directly from the conference room. The broadcasting website is:

The conference will end on April 5. Participants include Chinese democracy leaders Wei Jingsheng, Wang Juntao, Wang Youcai, etc.

This convention will elect the chairman of the Chinese Democratic Party.

The following outlines Wei Jingsheng's speech as a special honored guest of the conference.

Wei Jingsheng congratulated and wished for the success of the conference. He reviewed the failure of the 1989 democracy movement in China and concluded it was due to a lack of true leadership of the opposition groups, which ultimately resulted in massacre on June 4, 1989. To learn a lesson from that, the opposition must organize. From the founding of the Chinese Freedom and Democracy Party in Beijing by Hu Shigen and Liu Jingsheng in the early 1990's, to preparation of the founding of the Chinese Democratic Party in Zhejiang by Wang Youcai in 1998, this trend has encouraged China and influenced the whole world. Since then, the world wide Chinese have been carrying these flags in response, yet also have the problem that our forces are scattered without enough unity. This effort of uniting different fronts is very good. It will be helpful for us to take action together, while communicating independently. Only by cooperation between people inside China with those overseas, we will be building the momentum as a true rival against the Chinese Communist Party. We must encourage each other to raise our own confidence; we must encourage the Chinese people to oppose the dictatorship. So to carry on the momentum and to support our people inside China should be our work, in addition to carrying on this flag to show the world. The importance for us to support people inside China is obvious when you see how hard the Chinese Communist Party is trying to blacken the overseas Chinese democracy movement, because our very existence is the threat to the tyranny of the Chinese Communist Party's autocracy.

魏京生先生作为特邀嘉宾在中国民主党全国特别会议上发言。

首先，魏京生祝贺中国民主党全国特别会议的召开。他回顾了1989民主运动的失败是在于，直到六四屠杀，都没有一个真正的反对派的核心。之后，人们经过反思，觉悟到必须组党。90年代初胡石根、刘京生等在北京主建自由民主党和1998年王有才等在浙江筹建民主党，这些义举振奋了全国，影响了全球。之后，世界各地挑起了大旗，但问题是力量分散。魏京生认为酝酿之后现在的联合方式很好：统一行动，各自联络。他强调国内海外必须互相配合，这样才能壮声势，与中共唱对台戏，进而鼓励人们提高信心，激励老百姓进行反抗。而声势的持续，就是工作，一方面是对国内的支持，另一方面是扛起大旗，让世人看见。我们要起到号召、鼓励、带头的作用。不在海外丢人，树立良好的形象，这正是中共惧怕的。共产党为何拼命抹黑海外民运？因为我们反对派的存在就是对他们一党专制的威胁。
