Ciping Huang Meets with Vietnamese and Asia Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Southern California

In her recent trip to southern California, Ciping Huang, the Secretary-General of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition and Executive Director of the Wei Jingsheng Foundation, met and communicated with democracy activists of China and other Asia countries.

On July 22, 2011, Ms. Huang visited the headquarters of the VHRN (Vietnamese Human Rights Network) in Orange County, California.   Orange County has the largest Vietnamese community overseas, with a concentration of activists having a long history and a solid stand of anti-communism.  During the meeting between Ms. Huang and the VHRN leadership, both sides exchanged information on the current social and political situation, that also strongly interacted with global economy.  The discussion especially concerned promoting human rights and democratic progress in their respective countries, includes workers' rights and rights of speech and protest; the global influence on the two countries, especially that from democratic countries such as the USA and European countries; and the recent domino effect from democratic calls in the Arabic countries, and responses from people in the two countries.  Both sides also discussed cooperation in the future.

After the meeting, the Vietnamese human rights leaders hosted a dinner for Ms. Huang where the conversation continued.
