Wei Jingsheng's Commentary and Reading of Marin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" Speech Extract on BBC World News, in Observing the 50th Anniversary of the "I Have a Dream" Speech

On August 28, 2013, in observing the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech, BBC news invited global figures to read extracts from Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech.  Wei Jingsheng read the following: "We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of now.  This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism.  Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy."

Wei Jingsheng further commented at BBC news: "I think the remarks by Martin Luther King, Jr. so many years ago are very important.  It is the thoughts of many who pushed the history forward.  Not only at the time of Dr. King, but also in the present time as a new movement and new changes are taking place.  Many people may wish to act and do something immediately.  They will say: 'We can not just wait, drink coffee relaxed and make useless talk.'  So I think this remark by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is what many of us who want to push history forward want to say in our hearts."

In this unique tribute program by BBC World News, global figures celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King by reading the words of "I have a Dream."  Introduced by Professor Clayborne Carson, editor of the Martin Luther King papers, readers included:
