The
Wei Jingsheng Foundation Announces the Tenth Annual "Wei Jingsheng Chinese
Democracy Champion Prize" Award
December
5, 2013
Since
2004, the Wei Jingsheng Foundation has awarded the "Wei Jingsheng Chinese
Democracy Champion Prize" every year on December 5th. In the last nine years the awarding of
this prize has had reverberations around the world. Those people persisting in the fight for freedom in China,
who are at any moment in life-threatening danger, have thus been encouraged and
consoled.
As
can be expected, those who nominate a candidate believe the person they have
nominated has made a great contribution to the cause of Chinese democracy. Nominating someone in and of itself is a
way to commend all champions of democracy, including those unknown, untiring
democracy heroes who do not concern themselves with fame and fortune. We have great respect for their
strength of spirit and the sacrifices they have made. As in the past 9 years, this year's award gives greatest
consideration to those individuals and groups who have persisted in their work
on the domestic democracy movement inside China, especially those people who
gave up their own freedom and even their lives for the others.
Observing
China closely, we can tell that the political direction taken by Xi Jinping in
the more than one year since he came to power has been more sinister; that the
trial of Bo Xilai does not mean any policy change of the Communist Party, but
rather it was a means to tip power struggles; that the situation within China
is and has been a windy time right before a major thunderstorm such that any
unexpected event is likely to cause serious turbulence. Therefore, the Overseas Chinese
Democracy Coalition had its 10th conference in October 2013 in Nashville,
Tennessee, and called for democratic revolution in China with a clearly put
forward slogan: "The reform is dead, the revolution is ahead; abolish the
dictatorship, to rebuild the republic."
The
recipient for this year's "Wei Jingsheng Democracy Champion Prize"
announced by the Foundation's Wei Jingsheng Democracy Champion Prize Judging
Committee is exactly such a group.
They are the dozens of activists from the Chengdu "Chain-Gate"
rights defending group. Among
them, there were initially wrongfully treated people, as well as courageous
warriors who always supported democracy and freedom. These people awoke and grew up in misfortune and injustice
under the rule of the Communist regime, despite repeated suppression and
harassments. In the past 5 years,
the performance of this group has grown more prominent, and it has become an
indisputable model for the Chinese people against the Communist dictatorial
tyranny. They united together with
relentless struggle against the tyranny, with insistence and persistence.
We
could summarize their rights defending story with the last year's interview of
one of their members, Mr. Huang Xiaomin: "Chain-Gate rights defending
events have evolved from 3 years ago until today. Ten of us who were indicted have been released one after
another. Looking back, we have two
responses. One is that we did not
violate any law; the other is that we are right. We have been fighting for our rights within the legal frame
and against the corruption of dictatorship. We are a group who oppose and challenge injustice and social
evils. We know social values and
care about the political future of China.
We are a group of people who want to pioneer a society that is ruling
the country according to law, respect for human rights, and government by the
constitution." "Further,
even during the trials of us, we want to test and challenge the current
Communist regime, as if it is by rule of law or rule of man in each typical
case. There were perjury during
the trials for which we already have clear evidence, that we shall provide in
the retrials."
Please
read the relevant dedication by Ms. Huang Ciping: "I shall laugh loud even
as the sword crosses on my neck, our brave hearts are just as noble as the
Kunlun Mountains regardless whether we live or die."
This
year's award to the "Chain-Gate" rights defending group is also in
recognition of all the Chinese people who tirelessly fight against the tyranny
of the Communist rule. Among them,
there are Yang Jia, Deng Yujiao, Xia Junfeng, et al., all who were recommended
as the candidates to the Wei Jingsheng Foundation in the past. Exactly because of these peoples' brave
action against opposition has made some running dogs of the Communist Party to
have to think twice before doing evil.
They are the new heroes of modern China, more than one hundred years
after the heroic death of Tan Sitong.
They are the accelerators to speed up the democratic progress in China,
right before the storm of democratic revolution. As of now the Communist Party has to spend more money to
"maintaining stability" internally inside China, than its already
huge military expense. These
people demonstrated their courage and force to be more powerful than money and
suppression of the Communist dictatorship. They are the indicators showing that justice will overwhelm
evil in the future.
This
year's award money donated by individuals specifically for this award totaled
$2,180. Those who donated money
are donating their passion and belief in Chinese democracy. For this passion we want to express our
deepest gratitude. In addition we
also want to express our appreciation to all those people who recommended
nominees for our tenth annual "Wei Jingsheng Chinese Democracy Champion
Prize". We thank all of you
for your support and encouragement.

魏京生基金会第十届"魏京生中国民主斗士奖"颁发公告
自2004年以来，每年12月5日魏京生基金会都会颁发"魏京生中国民主斗士奖"。过去九年的颁奖在世界范围引起了很大的反响。对于正在中国坚持奋斗、随时都有生命危险的人们，是很大的鼓励与支持。
毫无疑义，被提名人为中国的民主和自由做出了卓越的贡献。提名本身是对所有民主斗士，包括那些默默无闻、坚持不懈、不计名利的勇士们的精神和所做的牺牲的赞扬。和往年一样，今年的获奖者以在中国国内坚持民主运动的人和团体，
尤其是那些为民主与人权献出自由甚至生命的人们为主。
细观中国大陆，习近平上台一年多的政治走向，使得政治局势更加险恶。而审判薄熙来并不意味着共产党政策的转变，而只是权力斗争的手段.国内局势已经处于"山雨欲来风满楼"的状态，任何突发事件都可能引起一场动荡。因此，中国民主运动海外联席会议在2013年10月美国田纳西州纳什维尔市召开的会议上讨论和通过了《中国民主革命檄文》，明确提出口号：改革已死，革命当立，废除专制，再造共和。
现在，魏京生基金会的"魏京生中国民主斗士奖"评委会要宣布的，今年"魏京生中国民主斗士奖"的获得者就是这样的一个群体。他们是成都"链子门"维权事件中的数十名主人公们。他们中间有从维护自己的权利开始的冤民，也有一向支持民主自由且见义勇为的勇士。他们在中共统治下的不幸和不公中觉醒、成长，在过去的近五年中，他们的表现更为突出，成为维权争民主的中国百姓团结一致、不屈不挠地与中共的独裁暴政作抗争的典范。
有关链子门维权事件，可以用他们中的一员黄晓敏先生去年的回顾来总结：“链子门从三年前发生到今天，我们十个被起诉人员陆陆续续的释放了。我们现在对案件回首过去，我们到现在是两点态度，第一，自始至终我们没有违法，二没有犯错，一直在现政权的法律框架范围之内争取自己的权利，反对专制腐败，向司法不公，社会丑恶进行抗争和挑战的一群，对社会价值的认识也有对国家未来政治命运关注，甚至想要开拓出一个依法治国、尊重人权、宪政治理的这样一个社会的一些公益人士。”“第二，就审理期间从国家的制度来说是在考验和挑战、测试中共现政权到底是依法治国还是人治的这么一个典型案例，那么中间假证、伪证，我们现在已经有明显的证据，确凿的法理将会在再审的过程中提供。”

今年对链子门民众的颁奖，也是对所有不屈不挠地与中共的独裁暴政作抗争的中国老百姓的表彰。这其中尤其突出的包括、曾被推荐为"魏京生中国民主斗士奖"的候选人杨佳、邓玉姣、夏俊峰等人。正是这些抗暴人士的行为，才使得一些中共暴政雇佣的爪牙们不得不三思而行。他们是近代英雄谭嗣同之后的这一百多年现代中国的新英雄，是中国民主革命风暴即将来临时争取民主自由的催生剂。在中共的维稳开销超过军费的今天，他们向世人展示出超越金钱和压力的勇气和力量，号召着正义压倒邪恶的未来。
这次汇集的奖金总额是2180美元。捐款的人们捐出的是他们对中国民主的热情和信念，在此我们表示衷心感谢。此外，我们也向第十届"魏京生中国民主斗士奖"参与提名的所有朋友表示谢意。感谢您们的支持和鼓励。
