Wei Jingsheng Meeting with US Representative Chris Smith in His Office

In the afternoon of July 17, 2014, Mr. Wei Jingsheng and Ms. Huang Ciping, the executive director of the Wei Jingsheng Foundation, visited the office of US Representative Chris Smith, along with Mr. Paul Protic, deputy staff director of the CECC (Congressional-Executive Commission on China). Rep. Smith is the co-chairman of the CECC and senior member of the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and chairman of its Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations.

Wei Jingsheng started the meeting by expressing his gratitude to both Rep. Smith and Mr. Protic of their help and concern during Wei's illness, and asked to pass his gratitude to other congressional members and staff who were concerned and helpful as well. They then discussed the current situation in China, human rights and related issues, etc. The meeting lasted for one and half hours in a cordial and serious atmosphere. At the end of the meeting, Rep Smith shook hands with both of Mr. Wei and Ms. Huang and sent them to the door.

魏京生等拜访美国国会众议员克里斯·史密斯先生

2014年7月17日下午，魏京生先生和魏京生基金会执行主任黄慈萍女士，前往美国国会众议院克里斯·史密斯议员的办公室，与史密斯议员及美国国会及行政部门中国委员会副幕僚长保罗·普若提克先生会面。史密斯议员是美国国会及行政部门中国委员会的联席主席。他还是美国众议院外交事务委员会的资深成员，及其主管非洲、全球健康、全球人权和国际组织的小组委员会主席。

魏先生首先感谢史密斯议员与普若提克先生在他生病期间的关心和帮助，并请他们转达对其他几位参、众议员及朋友们的感谢。随即他们讨论了中国的局势以及人权等相关的问题。会谈在亲切和认真的气氛中进行了一个半小时。结束后，史密斯先生送魏先生和黄女士一直到门外才握手告别。
