Lam Wing Kee Wins the "Contribution to Freedom and Democracy Award"

Today, in Hong Kong, the Association of Freedom and Democracy Connections in Asia, based in Tokyo, Japan, presented the "Contribution to Freedom and Democracy Award" to Lam Wing Kee, one of five "Causeway Bay Bookstore members," by the convener of the "2047 HK Monitor" Edward Chin, on behalf of the Association.

After winning the award, Mr. Lam talked about the future of Hong Kong. He thinks that the internal struggle in the Chinese Communist Party is not new. Therefore, the people of Hong Kong should care about issues with Hong Kong instead of these internal fights. "The People of Hong Kong should do work for Hong Kong's own existence, such as freedom and democracy." He also said that he has confidence in the people of Hong Kong because Hong Kong is open to the outside world, and Hong Kong people are not stupid and know how to analyze.

Regarding whether LEUNG Chun-ying would have another term or not and that some of the Hong Kong people are planning to emigrate, Lam Wing Kee said that he is an old man and he was not fight for himself, but for the next generation. "I want to take this opportunity to appeal to the young people and you need to fight. I fight for you as an old man, and you all should do more."

In addition to Lam Wing Kee, Ching Cheong, a senior commentator and a founding member of "2047 HK Monitor," also made a speech.

The following is a message congratulating Lam's award from Wei Jingsheng, the chairman of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition, that was delivered at the ceremony.

I would like to thank all the friends who have come this meeting. I want to thank all the friends who are striving for democracy and human rights in Hong Kong. Friends of Mainland China and overseas people who support the democracy movement are very supportive of your just action. The foreign friends I know, whether they are civilians or politicians, are often asking about the situation in Hong Kong. They are your strong supporters as well. Of course it is good to get some friends to support you, but to solve the issues we can only rely on our own efforts. Only after we strived, we would know the outcome. There is no Prophet who knows the outcome with a calculation. A firm will and sober mind are the minimum essential conditions. Only they who are persistent and courageous are the true elites who can lead the people.

Congratulations to Mr. Lam Wing Kee for his award and congratulations in advance to the people of Hong Kong for your just struggle that will be successful.

林榮基獲“自由民主貢獻獎”

在日本東京為基地的「亞洲自由民主連線協會」，今日在港由「2047香港監察」召集人錢志健，代為頒發「自由民主貢獻獎」予「銅鑼灣書店」五子之一的林榮基。

林榮基獲獎後，談及香港未來，他認為中共權鬥已不是第一天的事，但香港人應關心香港事，毋須費心在權鬥上，「香港人應該做番香港本身存在嘅嘢，例如自由民主。」他又稱對香港人有信心，因為香港對外開放，香港人亦不笨且懂得分析。

至於有指梁振英或會連任，部分港人計劃移民，林榮基坦言自己一把年紀，出去抗爭並不是為自己，而是為下一代，「我順便喺度呼籲，需要出嚟抗爭嘅年輕人，我哋啲咁嘅年紀都為你哋爭取，你哋都應該多啲出嚟」。

除林榮基外，資深評論員兼2047香港監察創組成員程翔，亦有發表講話。

謝謝到會的朋友們，謝謝所有在香港爭取民主和人權的朋友們。包括國內和海外的民主運動朋友們，都非常支援你們的正義的行動。我所認識的外國朋友們，無論是平民還是政治家，都常常問起香港的情況，都是你們堅定的支持者。有朋友支援固然很好，但解決問題只能靠我們自己的努力。只有努力之後才能知道勝負，沒有事先算好勝負的先知。堅定的意志和清醒的頭腦，是必備的起碼條件。只有堅持不懈勇往直前的精英，才是能夠領導人民的真正的精英。

祝賀林榮基先生得獎；也預祝香港人民的正義鬥爭終將有成。
