Chinese Democrats Gathered in Washington, to Explore the Way Out for China

February 28, 2017

-- by Yi Lin, Voice of America

The Wei Jingsheng Foundation has held a series of seminars recently, in an effort to explore and discuss the upcoming social, political, economic and cultural changes in China; as well as to take the initiative and actions in seeking the best possible ways out for China.

Wei Jingsheng, the well-known pro-democracy activist in the USA, believes that China's democratization can choose "coup in the court" or "coup by the military".  He said that now we can see that Xi Jinping will never promote a democratization process in China.  A military coup will bring the least shock for the country, and will be the fastest way to solve the problem, with much less than the otherwise chaos and losses nationwide.

The series of seminars are called "the Way Out for China."  There have been three so far.  Wei Jingsheng said that the purpose of the seminars are just like the namesake: to find a good direction and social system for the future of China.

He said: "In fact, for many years now, many Chinese are wondering about what road China is going to take.  We say that the Chinese Communist leadership is not good and should be overthrown.  But what is the way out for China after the overthrow?  We need the way out for China.  So we are getting together to discuss possible ways for China to go, the way out for China, as an answer to the doubts of our Chinese fellows inside of China."

The title of the third seminar was "Yu Luoke and the Unequal Society in China."  The honored speaker was Mr. Yu Luowen, the younger brother of Yu Luoke.

Yu Luoke received a death sentence and was executed on March 5, 1970, due to his human rights declaration "Theory of the Origin of Family Background", a declaration of human rights in China.  March 5 of this year will be the 47th anniversary of his death.

Wei Jingsheng said that today's situation in China is actually in line with what Mr. Yu Luoke experienced back then.  He said: "In fact, why are we talking about Yu Luoke today?  That is because even back then, when Yu Luoke said it, there were still many people would say: What is the matter?  We are born as workers and peasants, and we are not suffering.  But as the trend continued under the Cultural Revolution, we found out that all the people are in the ranks of the victims.  Today is just the same as before."

Wei Jingsheng also expressed to VOA some of the expectations of the new Trump administration.  Regarding human rights in China, he expressed confidence that it would be an issue of concern to this government.

Wei Jingsheng said: "We must be concerned.  Some people will only say but without action.  But regarding this Trump administration; first, he thinks that China has hurt the economic interest of the Americans, and second is that they should not be tolerant and get used to that kind of Communist dictatorship that oppresses the Chinese people.  Then during the whole process of confrontation with China, they will certainly become concerned about social reform in China.

The first two seminars focused on "the China-USA Economic and Trade Relations During the Trump Times" and "Lin Biao's Coup and Beyond", which separately discussed the economic and political issues in current Chinese society.
