Notice from the Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition

-- Wei Jingsheng

                                                                August 24, 2017

Recently there are many different opinions regarding Guo Wengui's exposure of the Chinese Communist leadership.  Meanwhile, there are intensified attacks from the Communist Internet police who have tried to flood the Internet with their posts and comments.  Their effort is to sow discord and set up an attempt to split the pro-democracy movement.  This creates an illusion for a lot of people and leads them to think that the Chinese democracy movement really does face a big split and a big reorganization.  To this end, I want to clarify and specify as follows:

1) Most of us do not have very different opinions of Guo's exposures, which have already lead to the intensification of the internal struggle of the Chinese Communist regime.  Regarding the opinions regarding Guo Wengui himself, there are different understandings.  So although most people support Guo's exposures, there are a small number of people who are against Guo Wengui himself.  This is a dispute between different views within the political movement itself, which are still very far away from a split.  It cannot be said that the Chinese democracy movement is split.

2) Even for the Chinese democracy movement, we should not say that division is impossible.  In the future, the movement will certainly split into different political parties.  This evolution is what makes a democracy a democracy.  When there is only one party in the country, which practices dictatorship, then it is the Chinese Communist Party, not a democratic party.

3) At this stage the overseas Chinese democracy movement lacks a formal social basis, and it does not have the basis for democratic elections.  The Chinese overseas democracy movement mainly relies on combining the democratic concept and ideological basis together.  It does not represent a political party of interests.  In order to overthrow the one-party dictatorship, we share the same ideal of establishing a democratic and free social system, so there is no possibility of division until that free system is established.

4) The activities of a large number of Chinese Internet police results in illusion to many people.  In particular, these Internet police use abusive language to pretend to represent the different views of  different individuals and groups, thus bringing an illusion of a split in the democracy movement.  Our comrades within the democracy movement must not to use any language of violence; we must use a peaceful, rational, and non-violent way to discuss, debate, and reach consensus.  We must avoid the tricks of these Internet police hired by the Communist regime.

5) The basic position of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition remains the same.  This is what was decided during our 14th conference recently: We support the exposure of the Communist leadership by Guo Wengui and any other rebels.  However, friends who do not like their characters have the right to maintain their own points of view.  We should remain united under the premise of the same general direction, not to be manipulated by any temptation, not to have internal attacks against each other within the ranks of the democracy movement.

This is the purpose of this notice, for our friends to use as a reference.
