Wei Jingsheng and Hu Ping Attends Radio Free Asia TV News Commentary:

After His Term Limit Is Abolished, Will Xi Jinping Just Become a Larger-Scale Kim Jong-un?

Radio Free Asia -- During the past weekend, just before the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) held its 3rd Plenary Session of the 19th Congress, the Chinese state media Xinhua News Agency said in a statement that the CCP Central Committee has recommended to removing the "No more than two consecutive terms" as defined in the Chinese Constitution for the President and vice-presidents of China.  At the same time, the proposal also plans to confirm in the Constitution that the CCP leadership as the most essential feature of socialism with Chinese characteristics.  When the news came out, it caused a huge rebound from media.  Some people pointed out that it further cleared the way for Xi Jinping to hold on to power indefinitely; some articles even said that this meant that Xi Jinping was about to become an emperor.  However, a commentary article published by the People's Daily said that the removal of the term of office is "the greatest deviation from the system of democratization in the West and the latest achievement of political civilization in human history".  So, what does the removal of "term limits" mean for China when we reflect historically and completely?  Radio Free Asia invited two Chinese political experts to provide their analysis.  One is Mr. Wei Jingsheng, the chairman of overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition; and the other is Mr. Hu Ping, honorary editor-in-chief of "Beijing Spring".
