On
November 30, 2018, Mr. Wei Jingsheng, Chairman of the Overseas Chinese
Democracy Coalition, participated in the "China Live" program hosted
by Radio Free Asia's He Ping: Suppression of Nationalities in Xinjiang, the
Birth of Genetically Modified Babies, and What to Expect of the Meeting Between
Donald Trump and Xi Jinping? Other
guests who participated in the program were Ilshat Hassan, President of the Uyghur
American Association, and Wei Pi-chou, deputy editor-in-chief of World
Journal. The following is an
introduction by Radio Free Asia.
This
week, hundreds of scholars from various countries jointly issued an open
letter, strongly concerned about the centralized detention of more than one
million Xinjiang Uyghur and other Muslim minorities by the Chinese
authorities. The Muslim
international groups also publicly voiced and urged the Chinese authorities to
respect basic human rights. After
as many as 15 national envoys in China jointly sent a letter to Chen Quanguo,
Secretary-general of the Communist Party of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region,
China's national suppression policy has once again become the focus of public
opinion. At the same time, the news
of the birth of the first genetically edited babies in China is worrying
people. Is it an innovative trial
or a crime to modify reproductive genes?
How can the so-called scientific and technological development with
Chinese characteristics accept the supervision of human values ethics and
international rules? In addition,
the meeting between US President Trump and Chinese Communist leader Xi Jinping
is about to debut. Can the outcome
resolve the trade crisis between the two countries and avoid a comprehensive
strategic confrontation? This
program is to explore these topics.
