On the Opening Day of School, Talk Is About Prices in China

-- Wei Jingsheng

September 1st is the opening day of school in China.  The new semester begins, and parents want their children to study hard, so they need to replenish their nutrition.  Regrettably, this year is not as good as the previous years.  Pork, the meat that the Chinese consume the most, is in trouble.  Domestic pigs have African Swine Fever, while pork from foreign countries are not allowed to be imported.  As price of meat soars, most food prices have risen in China.  Even amounts allowed to be purchased are limited, so people cannot buy even if they have the money.  This reminds me of the difficult three years of the Great Chinese Famine (from 1959 to 1961).

That difficult three years of the Great Chinese Famine was because the Communist regime wanted to make the Great Leap Forward.  On one side, the regime squandered food, while on the other side, it forcefully exported large quantities of grain to the Soviet Union, even though the Soviet Union did not want it.  The purpose of doing so was to make sure that there would be no food to relieve the disaster when it struck, thus could push the responsibility of starving people towards the top leader Mao Zedong.  It was the internal struggle within the Communist Party that led to the catastrophe of tens of millions of Chinese starving to death.

It is hard for young people now to imagine the misery of that time.  At that time, even people in the cities could hardly imagine it.  The city dwellers already felt miserable enough when there was no meat to eat.  Only when I went to the countryside and returned to my hometown in Anhui, did I see the reality of all people of whole villages starved to death, and heard the folks describe the horrors of cannibalism.  Now I feel chills when I heard that President Xi Jinping is calling everyone to graze grass without meat.

What is the reason of the meat shortage now?  It is still because of the internal struggle of the Communist Party and its ideal of the revolution in the whole world.  In order not to surrender to the United States, the Communist regime stopped importing meat and food; in order to maintain unfair trade with the United States, the Communist regime introduced the African Swine Fever from Russia.  This resulted in the drop of pork prices in the USA, even to only a fraction of prices in China.  Yet, the Chinese people can't even buy pork at a high price, and other foods prices rise at the same time.  The money in the hands of ordinary Chinese has shrunk dramatically.

For ordinary people who make up the majority of the population in China, daily food consumption is the major expense.  The so-called middle class does not want their children to return to the era of grazing grasses.  Of course it makes for indifference to the wealthy and corrupted officials.  What these officials want is to fight trade with the United States and continue to make a fortune by stealing and robbing.  Then, they send their wallets, wives, children and mistresses to safety.  The lives and deaths of the ordinary Chinese have nothing to do with them.

This Chinese Communist Party, a dictatorial autocratic party, never had a bottom line during their internal fights.  They would not stop fighting until one side is destroyed.  They care of nothing above their internal fights.  Just like in the Great Chinese Famine period, they would do anything to achieve their political goals.  Regardless whether the black cats or the white cats, they can use whatever means and not care of the deaths of tens of millions of ordinary Chinese.

Now the problem is only that there is no meat to eat.  However, it seems that no meat to eat has yet to achieve its purpose.  Then the Communist regime will take additional measures.  There are only actions left that people cannot even think of, but no action that the Communist regime does not dare to do.  In the end, they do not care if the whole country goes to chaos, with Chinese unable to survive.  They only treasure their own lives, that they view as more precious than the lives of tens of millions of ordinary Chinese.  There have always been such a group of villains within the Communist Party that have been ruthlessly attacking each other with cruel struggles.  This is determined by the cult theory of their Communism.

Now, I have to say a few good words of my old neighbor Liu He.  Some of the sensible officials represented by him are still working hard to resolve the trade war with the United States and hope that there will be fair and normal trade relations with the United States to save the Chinese people from the dangerous situation.

There are even a larger number of Chinese officials opposed to the use of force in Hong Kong.  Once the June 4th massacre in Tiananmen Square is repeated in Hong Kong, more severe sanctions than the sanctions imposed 30 years ago would be imposed.  By then, the Chinese economy would lose its connection with the world, and collapse would be inevitable.  It is not necessarily an exaggeration to say that everything is returning to the state when the World War II ended.  And it is not impossible for China to return to the Great Chinese Famine years.

Don't think that China can still return to the self-sufficient time of Mao Zedong era.  The times are different.  Modern society and people, as well as production structures, cannot go back to 50 years ago.  When forced to cut off from the connection with the world, the Chinese economy can only collapse.  Even if Xi Jinping's conspiracy succeeded, with the trade war dragging down Trump's presidency, will the next US president still be as easily cheated as Trump?

The so-called strategists who have such delusions can only be the mentally retarded strategists that are produced by the reverse elimination.  Most of the demise of authoritarian states in history was due to the fact that idiots produced by reverse elimination occupied the decision-making positions, leading to the powerful countries repeatedly losing to the weak and small enemies.  Moreover, the United States is not a weak enemy.  Does the Chinese Communist regime still have a chance of winning?
