The 4th Issue of "Wei Jingsheng’s Messages" Video: Commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Passing of the Famous Chinese Democrat Mr. Wang Ruowang

December 19, 2021 is the 20th anniversary of the death of the famous Chinese democrat Mr. Wang Ruowang.

This political dissident, who was criticized by Deng Xiaoping as "the ancestor of bourgeois liberalization," was transformed from a follower and senior official of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to a rebel and outstanding citizen leader against the CCP.  His ideas of freedom and democracy, together with his practice of resistance, are an admirable monument in China's struggle for democratization.  Although Mr. Wang Ruowang passed away 20 years ago, his ideas and road of struggle have great practical significance for the upcoming drastic changes in China.

Wang Ruowang (1918 -- December 19, 2001), formally named Wang Shouhua, but with pen names Ruowang, Ruohan, and Ruomu, was from Wujin of Jiangsu Province.  He was a political figure in the People’s Republic of China, a senior CCP cadre and a democrat, who was regarded as the leader of China's bourgeoisie liberalization and total Westernization in the 1980’s.  He was personally named by Deng Xiaoping in 1986 and expelled from the CCP in 1987.  In August 1992, at the invitation of Columbia University as a visiting scholar, he went to the United States with his wife Yangzi (real name Feng Suying).  He passed away in New York on December 19, 2001.

Boxun News, Beijing Spring, Chinese Democracy Party, Chinese Democracy Alliance, Federation for a Democratic China and people from all walks of life held a seminar at 10 am on December 19 to cherish the memory of Mr. Wang Ruowang’s life and deeds, explore his life path, and to pay tribute to this great democrat.  Democrats and political commentators including Wei Jingsheng, Hu Ping, Wang Dan, Wang Juntao, Pei Yiran, Sheng Xue and other guests delivered wonderful speeches.  Mr. Wang Ruowang's widow, Ms. Yangzi (Feng Suying), was also invited to attend the conference.

Wei Jingsheng was the first to open the speeches.  He highly praised Mr. Wang Ruowang's life of pursuing the truth.  He encouraged other CCP officials to learn from Mr. Wang Ruowang, bravely break away from the evil dictatorship, and shift to the side of the people who are yarning for democracy and freedom.

Wei Jingsheng’s speech at the seminar and Wang Ruowang’s precious photos during his lifetime have been made into the fourth episode of the "Wei Jingsheng’s Messages" video broadcast on YouTube.  The link to the video is:
