Is this the End of the Road for Comrade Xi Jinping?

-- Wei Jingsheng

A funny thing happened recently.  It's not that Xi Jinping has a brain tumor, or that Li Keqiang is about to take over, but that Xi's Central Office issued an official document to deal with their old comrades, especially the old comrades who held leadership positions in the Chinese government.  This really makes people laugh, also gloat a little.  Xi Jinping has degenerated to the point where he has to guard against even the old CCP leaders who promoted him.  Is this still the dictator who controls everything as the Hong Kong and Taiwan media said?  There is such a huge gap in between.

Let's put aside the rumor of whether or not Xi is in control.  Let us just try to figure out under what circumstances would he be unbearable to turn against his mentors and seniors?  It must be because Xi was pushed and humiliated by his mentors and seniors in the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and felt that he lost some face, thus doing something like this to humiliate himself.  Why didn't the CCP senior officials give him this face?  He must have done something unbearably bad that must be corrected immediately or the consequences will be severe to result in the CCP senior officials not caring about faces but to "arbitrarily talk about the central government".

In order to be re-elected, Comrade Xi has carried out a series of perverse actions.  Not only are the people angry and the public sentiment is boiling, and even the Chinese economy has entered a trend of rapid decline.  Not only are China and the Chinese in a desperate situation, but the legitimacy of the Communist Party is also in a desperate situation where it is difficult to extricate itself.  As there is no brave man within the Communist leadership to voice a different opinion, they had to intervene in the names of retired leaders to stop Xi, which fits what the common Chinese would say using Zhong Kui (a deity in Chinese mythology, traditionally regarded as a vanquisher of ghosts and evil beings) to fight against ghosts.  This Zhong Kui within the CCP tradition is indeed effective and slapped Xis face to the degree that Xi had to order his decree to forbid "arbitrarily talking about the central government".

Regarding the CCP's tradition of senior leaders intervening in politics, I don't think it's all that bad.  From the time of the Democracy Wall to my parole in Beijing in 1993, I have seen many veteran CCP officials "arbitrarily talking about the central government" against the politics and leaders of that time to a point that surpassed the so-called dissidents and elites.  Among them, the highest-ranking official was already in the circle that has held leadership positions as mentioned in the latest decree from the central government.  The depth of their resentment and the roughness of their language were characteristic of their rebel origin.  When these words were publicly disseminated, they must have greatly influenced public opinion.

Why does this happen?  It doesn't seem like they were in this position when they were in power.  It is due to the viewing angle being different.  After all, they were initially they fooled into the Chinese Communist Party due to their motive to create a better life for the Chinese people.  Years of brainwashing made them believe that only by following the CCP leaders, even if they did a lot of ridiculous things such as the Great Leap Forward, which boasted producing ten thousand catties per Chinese acre (i.e. 1/6 Acre), etc., could China achieve this goal.  After they stepped down, their observations were completely different.  When observing things from the perspective of ordinary Chinese, they realized that the CCP and its leaders have been bringing this country and the people to a desperate situation.  However, besides cursing a few words, they can do nothing.  This only increases their inner resentment.

After I arrived in the United States, some of the elder sisters within the CCP leadership, as my father called them, wanted to organize a group to visit me in the United States.  When I asked why, he said that these elder sisters had said: Jingsheng is doing what we wanted to do when we were young but failed to do it.  This shows that their introspection was deeper than people think.  Restoring their position among the common Chinese has brought their original aspirations back to them.

Now not only the Chinese society, but also the people within the CCP could not tolerate Xi Jinpings perversion.  But the fact that there is no brave man within the CCP leadership resulted the complaints of these retired leaders becoming a banner of struggle within the CCP and a rallying cry for the opposition, which in turn is threatening Xi Jinping's policy continuing his perversion, including his intention to maintain his leadership during the 20th Congress of the CCP.  This is what makes Xi Jinping upset.

Under Xi Jinping's modern surveillance, it is difficult for CCP officials to assemble an anti-Xi alliance even if they are at Wang Qishan's level.  In this regard, the speculation of the Hong Kong and Taiwan media is still quite reliable.  But the appearance of the retired senior CCP leaders unexpectedly produced a great rallying effect.  This is a wave of storm that Xi Jinping cannot resist, and it has had a subversive effect on the next stage of the internal struggle within the CCP.  Even if the central government issued a red-headed decree, it could not quell the storm.  It seems that we will be able to watch a good show in the second half of this year.
