Fighting Against Tyranny and Embracing Freedom, Heroes Gather to Commemorate June 4th Massacre (Photos)

[Secret China, June 6, 2022] (Secret China reporters Yang Hao and Xiao Ran's interview and report)

On June 4, the "Freedom from Tyranny" rally was held in Rockville Town Square of Rockville, Maryland, USA,  to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the Democracy Movement in 1989 that ended with June 4th Massacre.  Wei Jingsheng, president of the Wei Jingsheng Foundation, said that now the situation is more and more favorable for the collapse of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).  Many cities around the world are commemorating the June 4th Massacre.  This is a very good situation.

Many democracy activists and leaders of the human rights movement attended the rally and made speeches.  The event was also supported by a number of groups persecuted by the CCP as well as other human rights organizations.  Representatives of Hong Kong and Taiwan communities, as well as representatives of Vietnamese, Korean, Tibetan, Mongolian, and Xinjiang Uyghurs and other groups spoke out to condemn the CCP’s tyranny.  In addition, people from the Ukrainian community also participated in the rally.

On June 4, 1989, tanks and soldiers were ordered into Tiananmen Square to disperse peaceful demonstrations calling for democracy, human rights and an end of corruption.  It is estimated that at least 10,000 civilians and students were killed or injured.  The families of the victims have yet to receive any solace in their pain.

The courage of the Tiananmen Square protesters inspired further calls for freedom and democracy around the world.  The Berlin Wall collapsed and Communism in Eastern Europe began to end in a few months after the Tiananmen Square massacre.

Wei Jingsheng, who was called “the father of Chinese democracy” by former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, spoke at the rally and was interviewed by Secret China.  He said that the world calls on the CCP government to allow the public to discuss the June 4th openly, and to openly face the violence launched by the CCP and its military against the Chinese people.  This is a legitimate request of normal people.  But in terms of the rules of the Communist party, they will not agree, nor will they respond.

"Actually not all communists were willing to carry out armed repression against students and ordinary people.  Zhao Ziyang, then CCP Secretary-general,  opposed it.  Bao Tong, secretary of Zhao Ziyang, said that Deng Xiaoping told Zhao Ziyang that he agreed with Zhao to negotiate with the students, but Deng mobilized the army and carried out the massacre quickly." Wei Jingsheng said.

He said that the slaughtered students are heroes in people's mind, who sacrificed their lives for the benefit of the people of the whole country, and a monument will be erected for them one day.

He said that we should not expect the CCP to vindicate the heroes who died in the June 4th Massacre.

"The CCP will not vindicate.  If they do so, it will be a slap in their own face.  For more than 30 years after the June 4th Massacre, they have implemented even more authoritarian and dictatorial policies.  We will honor these victims to be heroes after the fall of the CCP, not by asking for vindication," he said.

Although the authorities in Hong Kong has banned the commemoration of June 4 there in the past two years, commemorative activities around the world have emerged one after another, and the momentum is getting greater and greater.

For more than 30 years, the brave group of Tiananmen Mothers has never stopped seeking responsibility despite the enormous risks.  At the same time, the CCP’s suppression of free speech and further violation of human rights continues, targeting groups such as Christians, Tibetans, Falun Gong practitioners, Uyghur Muslims, and Mongolians.  Over the past 100 years, more than 100 million people around the world have fallen as victims to communism.

In the end, Wei Jingsheng told "Secret China", "We continuously working from overseas to create conditions to promote democracy and freedom in China, and one day we will achieve our goals.  Now the situation is more and more favorable for the collapse of the CCP, so this year's commemoration of June 4th is getting more and more grander than previous years.  Although the commemoration at Victoria Park in Hong Kong was banned, but Taiwan and many cities around the world are commemorating the June 4th Massacre, which is a very good situation.”
