A Brief Summary of the Activities and
Efforts of Wei Jingsheng and the Wei Jingsheng Foundation in the Five Years
from November 2012 to November 2017

Dear friends and supporters,
Happy Thanksgiving!
Twenty years ago, on November 17, 1997,
under international pressure especially from the then US President Bill
Clinton, Mr. Wei Jingsheng was released from jail and sent to exile in the
USA. Before that time, Wei Jingsheng
was China's most prominent dissident after spending a total of more than 18
years in jail for advocating democracy.
After that time, he became the most visible freedom fighter and
democracy leader for the Chinese people and for world peace on the international
stage.
On this 20th anniversary of Wei
Jingsheng's freedom, at this time of Thanksgiving season, we compiled a list of
some of the public activities of Wei Jingsheng and the Wei Jingsheng Foundation
that have been published in the 5 years from 2012 to 2017. These activities reflect only a small
portion of his work. This review is not
just for our readers to learn about us and what we have done, but also a way to
express our gratitude to our supporters, friends, especially participants of
these activities.
On November 17, 2007, we released a
similar summary of the activities and efforts of Wei Jingsheng and the Wei
Jingsheng Foundation during the 5 Years from November 2002 to November 2007：

US Congress, as well as three "Human Rights and Freedom Defender"
award ceremonies to former US Representative Frank Wolf (2014), Democratic
Leader of the US House Nancy Pelosi and human rights champion Robert Bernstein
(2016), and US Representative Chris Smith (2017). These events were co-sponsored by the European Parliament
Liaison Office with the US Congress, and human rights organizations including
Freedom House, Reporters Without Borders, International Campaign for Tibet, as
well as Chinese organizations including IFCSS (Independent Federation of
Chinese Students and Scholars, USA), Tianwen United Institute, and Chinese
European Post, etc.
6. The successful launch of Wei
Jingsheng’s Facebook and twitter accounts.
The Facebook account https://www.facebook.com/jingsheng.wei.3
has surpassed the 5,000 limit for friends, and is followed by 3,446
persons. We sent out 1,159 tweets through
our twitter account https://twitter.com/wei_jingsheng
since it was established in July 2015, and it has 47,300 followers now. Thousands of Netizens have participated and
chatted with Wei Jingsheng on Internet conferences and other forms of
chatrooms, etc. We have more than 7,000
direct subscriptions of our newsletters.
Our website also received millions hits.
7. In September 2017, the Wei Jingsheng
Foundation launched its "Wandering and Singing For Freedom - Chinese
Literature and Art from Exile and Prisons Series" which immediately
received many positive responses. This
project is still ongoing.
8. A Google search of "Wei
Jingsheng" produced 182,000 items in English and 452,000 items in Chinese;
while "Wei Jingsheng Foundation" produced 174,000 items in English
and 51,000 items in Chinese.

In RFA report “Wei Jingsheng and Wang
Weilin at Remember Them: Champions for Humanity Monument in San Francisco Bay
Area”, it reported HUANG Ciping visited the group of sculptures called
"Remember Them" that is located in the Henry J. Kaiser Memorial Park
in Oakland of the San Francisco Bay Area and met with the famous sculptor who accomplished
the monument, Mr. Mario Chiodo. In this
sculpture group there is a quotation from Wei Jingsheng: "We all dream of
freedom in the same way."
July 22, 2013:
RFA reports that Zhou Fengshuo, Fang
Zheng, Huang Ciping, Ren Songlin, etc. went to Alibaba company in the Bay area
to protest and demand Jack Ma of Alibaba to apologize for his praise of the
bloody crackdown of the June 4 Massacre in Beijing in 1989:

Wei Jingsheng and Huang Ciping wrote a
letter to the Kepler Science Conference II, calling scientists for their
conscience to support human rights:
November 13-17, 2013：
Wei Jingsheng and Huang Ciping landed in
Frankfort, Germany, from the USA, to start their more than half months long
journey to promote democracy and human rights in China. The main purpose of their Europe trip was in
response to invitations from Martin Schultz, the president of the European
Parliament, to attend the 25th anniversary conference of the Sakharov Prize for
Freedom of Thought. Wei Jingsheng is a
laureate awarded "for his courageous opposition against the Chinese
Communist Party, his commitment to democratic reform and to freedom of
expression." Prior to attending
the 25th conference of the Sakharov Prize to be held in the European Parliament
in Strasbourg, France, both Wei Jingsheng and Huang Ciping went to Paris to
meet with democracy supporters and politicians. Later, Huang Ciping went to Belgium, then the Netherlands to meet
with a group of Chinese freedom and democracy advocators, as well as victims
and witnesses of the June 4 Massacre in 1989 as part of the coalition
networking. Meanwhile, Wei Jingsheng
also met with members of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition who come to
Strasbourg from neighboring European countries to meet with him for work and
exchanges. Some of these members also attended
some of the Sakharov Prize Network events.

November 18 and 19, 2013:
Wei Jingsheng attended the 25th
anniversary conference of the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought with a
series of well-planned and beneficial events, held at the European Parliament
in Strasbourg, France. This is the
biggest event for Sakharov Prize Network (SPN) since its official establishment
in 2008:
November 19, 2013:

November 20, 2013:
Wei Jingsheng, along with 18 other
laureates of the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, were presented in a
ceremony at the official session of the European Parliament in front of the
more than 1,000 European Parliament members and observers in the European
Parliament building in Strasbourg, France.
The laureates were honored with a special seating in front of the first
row of the plenary room. Earlier during
the day, Wei Jingsheng presented at a seminar for about 60 journalists from 24
countries on the topic of "Human rights violations: Giving a voice to the
victims". Wei Jingsheng also gave
specific interviews with several news media talking about China and himself
during the day. Later on that day, the
laureates participated in a public debate in the European Parliament on
Children's rights, attended by about 100 people. In his speech at this debate, Wei Jingsheng questioned the United
Nations' role regarding the support of Chinese children's rights. He criticized the United Nations for giving
the Chinese government an award for its notorious brutal "One-Child
Policy" in the name of "birth control" which carries out forced
abortions and also results in many forced abortions of even full-term
pregnancies. Wei Jingsheng also criticized
the lack of help or even simple attention from the United Nations to the
Chinese children of migration, who are denied rights of education because of
the Communist regime's discriminatory policy especially against peasants,
etc. The three-day long 25th
Anniversary Conference of the Sakharov Prize concluded with a dinner at the
Pavillon Josephine in Parc de I'Orangerie, Strasbourg, that was hosted by Mr.
Roland Ries, Senator-Mayor of Strasbourg, with a keynote speech by EP president
Schultz. More than 100 dignitaries and
notables especially from the EU and Strasbourg were at the dinner. Four Sakharov laureates were invited to
speak, included Wei Jingsheng. In his
speech at the dinner, Wei Jingsheng urged the Europeans especially the European
Parliament to uphold its human rights and democracy principles, joining forces
with other democratic countries, to push for positive changes in authoritarian
countries like China. He emphasized
that such an action shall not only be beneficial to the suppressed people in
those authoritarian countries, but also in turn to be beneficial to the people
in the democratic countries and to world peace as a whole.
Nov. 21 to Nov. 24, 2013:
Wei Jingsheng and Huang Ciping visited
five cities in Southern Germany, which included Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and
Munich. They met with friends and
supporters of the Chinese democracy and human rights movement, include members
of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition. In
Munich, they visited board member of the Wei Jingsheng Foundation Princess
Felizitas von Schonborn, who organized a seminar about China with a reception
and a dinner to greet the visitors.
More than a dozen people including a film producer, lawyers, scholars,
journalists, writers, painters and artists, as well freedom and democracy supporters
came for the gathering:
November 25, 2013:
Wei Jingsheng and Huang Ciping made a
visit to Reporters Without Borders' headquarters in Paris, France. They met and talked with its head of
Asia-Pacific Desk, Benjamin Ismail, etc. and received their materials. In that evening, Wei Jingsheng, accompanied
by a senior French diplomat, visited the Elysee Palace, the official residence
of the President of the French Republic.
Mr. Wei met with Mr. Paul Jean-Ortiz, the diplomatic adviser and G8
Sherpa to French President Francois Hollande.
Both sides talked extensively of their common concern of human rights
and international affairs. The meeting
between old friends was both relaxed and pleasant.

December 5, 2013:
2013 "Wei Jingsheng Democracy
Champion Prize" announced to award dozens of activists from the Chengdu
"Chain-Gate" rights defending group.
Among them, there were initially wrongfully treated people, as well as
courageous warriors who always supported democracy and freedom. These people awoke and grew up in misfortune
and injustice under the rule of the Communist regime, despite repeated
suppression and harassments. They
united together with relentless struggle against the tyranny, with insistence
and persistence.
The relevant dedication by Ms. Huang
Ciping: "I shall laugh loud even as the sword crosses on my neck, our
brave hearts are just as noble as the Kunlun Mountains regardless whether we
live or die:"

Celebrate 25 Years of the Sakharov Prize

The day long celebration include other
events and ended with a dinner banquet honoring the laureates that was hosted
by the European Institute at the Cosmos Club.
It was attended by about 70 diplomats, politicians, and scholars. It was followed by a dinner discussion with
the laureates. Joelle Attinger, the
President of the European Institute, gave the welcome speech. Carl Gershman, president of the National
Endowment for Democracy made the introductory remarks before the laureates made

魏京生及其它18名萨哈罗夫思想自由奖的获得者，出现于1000多名欧洲议会议员及观察员前，参加在法国斯特拉斯堡欧洲议会大厦里举行的欧洲议会正式会议。获奖者们被安排在议会第一排座位前的位置上以示特别表彰。当天早些时候，魏京生出席并在来自24个国家约60名记者参加的、主题为"让受害者发声"的研讨会上主讲。同日，魏京生也接受了多家媒体有关中国和对他本人的特访。之后，获奖者们参加了在欧洲议会举行的、有约100人参加的、有关儿童权利的公开辩论。魏京生在这次辩论中发言并质问联合国在有关中国儿童权利方面到底起什么样的作用。他批评联合国为中共臭名昭著的、残酷的“一胎化政策”颁奖，以计划生育之名行强制堕胎之实，以致于临产的妊娠都被强迫堕胎，并造成许多违反政策的家庭四处流浪。魏京生还批评联合国对中国的迁徙人口尤其是农民工缺乏帮助甚至仅仅是简单的关注，以致于他们的孩子们无法得到正常的教育。而这一切正是因为中共对中国的迁徙人口尤其是农民们歧视性的政策。为期三天的萨哈罗夫奖25周年纪念大会在斯特拉斯堡Parc
